Tyronn Lue “Insulted” By Lakers 3-Year Offer: Report

It’s back to the drawing board for the Los Angeles Lakers in their search for a new head coach, as Tyronn Lue reportedly turned down the three-year, $18 million offer.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Dave McMenamin, Lue’s camp was seeking a five-year deal with a salary commensurate with a championship résumé. The former Lakers guard was reportedly “insulted” by the Lakers’ offer. 

In addition to the contractual disagreements, ESPN reports that the Lakers were pushing for their own preferred candidates for assistant coaches, which includes Jason Kidd. The team reportedly wants Kidd apart of any coaching staff to help mentor Lonzo Ball, who will be entering this third season.

In all of this, Kurt Rambis has reportedly emerged as a “powerful voice” in basketball operations. In fact, Rambis was reportedly the only one opposed to the Lue signing.

Ever since the Lakers fired Luke Walton, Lue has been described as the “frontrunner” for the vacant position and the feeling only got stronger once Sixers assistant Monty Williams agreed to a deal with the Phoenix Suns.

Now, the team will reopen the search with reports suggesting Frank Vogel, Lionel Hollins and Mike Woodson are all possibilities.
