Open Mike Eagle & Father Examine The Uninteresting Aspects Of Being “Lit”

Days following his comedy-laced collaboration “Extra Consent” with Lizzo, The New Negroes co-creator Open Mike Eagle is back with another visual. The Comedy Central show closes out each episode with a new music video, and the fifth episode saw the union of OME and Father for their track “Lit.” The song pokes fun at what it means to get “lit” at parties: “We at the party, this is it/ We ain’t doin’ sh*t/ All we do is sit/ And baby, this is lit” the lyrics state.

The visual plays on the cartoonish and psychedelic imagery that many people see when they get high when mixing drugs and alcohol. The Lance Bangs-directed visual taps into animated features as well, drawing inspiration from vintage video games, The Sims, and The Simpsons. While the term getting “lit” is often used to describe being wild and crazy, OME ad Father show that much of the time it’s just people sitting around unable to function. Aside from Father and Lizzo, OME has previously linked up with MF Doom for “Police Myself,” Danny Brown for “Unfiltered,” and Phonte for “Woke As Me.”
