Lakers Rumors: LeBron James Prefers Ty Lue Over Monty Williams

The Los Angeles Lakers head coaching job appears as though it will come down to two candidates: Former Cleveland Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue and current Philadelphia 76ers assistant Monty Williams. Both players have had multiple meetings with the Lakers, and while LeBron James has reportedly “stayed out” of the coaching search, he has a clear preference according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

During an appearance on NBA Countdown on Thursday night, Woj noted: LeBron’s “preference is with Ty Lue.”

The New York Times’ Marc Stein has also insisted that signing Ty Lue would be the “obvious move” for the Lakers given his relationship with LeBron, who is still under contract for a couple more years. Back in March, Yahoo Sports’ NBA Insider Chris Haynes noted that LeBron’s former coach is “an obvious candidate” to replace Walton.

On the topic of the Lakers’ candidates, Haynes told FS1’s Colin Cowherd, “Well, obviously Tyronn Lue. I mean, LeBron James, the day Lue got fired LeBron James put a tweet out supporting him. ‘You know how to contact me if you need me.’”
