FRIDAY HORRORS; COVID-19 Claims One Death Every Hour in NYC

Friday was a day of horror for the city that never sleeps. According to the New York City Health Commissioner, Dr. Oxiris Barbot, this might be a new way of life for residents as coronavirus related deaths continue to rise and the rates of infections rise at an ungodly rate.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we get to a day when we have double-digits new people dying every day,” she said at a City Hall press conference Friday afternoon.

On Friday she had to say something to put it in the proper perspective for the city.

There was a death almost every hour on the hour in New York City on Friday, March 20th. In fact, between 10 am and 6 pm alone, 14 people died. During this eight-hour time period, the positive cases within the five boroughs hiked up from 5,151 to 5,683. People are trying to cling to some sort of normalcy— but with numbers like this nothing will be normal for a long time.

According to the NY Post the current positive diagnosis by borough is as follows:

  1. Brooklyn: 1750
  2. Queens: 1,514
  3. Manhattan: 1,402
  4. Bronx: 736
  5. Staten Island: 285

The state and city authorities attribute at the jump in numbers to the recent increase in testing. As more people are tested, more will be confirmed.
