Burger King Removes “Insensitive” Chopstick Advertisement & Issues Apology

Burger King New Zealand introduced a new burger called the Vietnamese Sweet Chilli Tendercrisp but the fast-food chain took the completely wrong approach when announcing the new menu addition. In the clip below, you can see as numerous actors attempt to eat the burger with chopsticks and after getting called out, BK has removed the ad and issued an apology.

“You try to get money from Vietnamese people, and this is what you did? Using chopsticks is a part of our culture, and we are proud of that. But we DO NOT use them to eat the fucking burgers. Burger King is humiliating our country and our culture,” one Twitter user wrote.

“The ad in question is insensitive and does not reflect our brand values regarding diversity and inclusion,” a spokeswoman for Burger King said in a statement to CNN. Although the advertisement was pulled, the burger still appears on the official website. “Take your taste buds all the way to Ho Chi Minh City. Creamy mayo, crispy lettuce, juicy tomato slices, white onion and a crunchy panko crumbed Tendercrisp Chicken Patty, drowning in mouth-watering sweet chilli sauce. Your taste buds won’t ever want to go home,” the description reads.

We think it’s safe to say the momentum behind the new addition has died out.
