WWE Announces New “Stomping Grounds” PPV Event

WWE Announces New “Stomping Grounds” PPV Event

WWE’s annual Backlash pay-per-view was originally scheduled to take place at San Diego’s Pechanga Arena on June 16, but that is no longer the case. In fact, WWE has reportedly scrapped the Backlash PPV altogether in favor of a new PPV event dubbed “Stomping Grounds.”

According to reports, the first-ever Stomping Grounds PPV has been announced for June 23. It will take place at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington.

The card is subject to change from now until June 23, but the Tacoma Dome is already advertising a match between SmackDown Live superstars Roman Reigns and Randy Orton. WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins, WWE Champion Kofi Kingston, Women’s Champion Becky Lynch, AJ Styles, Braun Strowman and Charlotte Flair are also advertised for the event.

The next PPV on the WWE calendar is “Money In The Bank” which is scheduled to go down at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut on Sunday, May 19.

According to a report by Dave Meltzer, it is believed that WWE cancelled the June 16 “Backlash” PPV because they moved the Saudi Arabia event to June 7 and they do not want two PPVs running so close to each other.

Although the WWE has not officially announced the Saudi Arabia PPV, it is believed that many of the company’s biggest stars will once again be making the trip. That will likely include The Undertaker, who is rumored for a match against Elias, after the two came face-to-face on the episode of Monday Night Raw immediately following Wrestlemania 35.
