Shaq Shares the Moment Kobe Bryant Gained His Respect

As NBA watchers, we have seen the growing relationship between Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant who played together on the Los Angeles Lakers from 1996 to 2004. Today, Shaquille O’Neal, better known as Shaq, was one of the many speakers who spoke on behalf of the late basketball legend during his memorial service.

In an emotional tribute, Shaq recalls the time that his “little brother” gained his respect. “The day Kobe gained my respect was.. guys were complaining. They said ‘Shaq Kobe’s not passing the ball.’ I said I’ll talk to him. I said ‘Kobe there’s no I in team,’ and Kobe said, I know but there’s an M-E in that m*therf*cker,” he paused as the audience burst out into laughter. Eventually, a chuckling Shaq says that he went back and told his teammates “Just get the rebound, he’s not passing it.”

Shaq continues to lift the spirits of the mourning audience by saying that he will teach his daughters all his moves on the court, and finishes by saying he promises not to teach Bryant’s free throw techniques.
