R. Kelly Defaults on Sex Abuse Lawsuit After Not Showing Up to Court

On Tuesday, Chicago Judge Moira S. Johnson ruled that singer, R.Kelly defaulted on a civil lawsuit regarding a case from 1998 where a woman states the singer lured her into having sex at the age of 16, after promising the young teen to appear in one of his music videos.

Judge Moira S. Johnson states that the “Step in the Name of Love” singer has never stepped into court. Kelly’s attorneys have filed to withdraw from representing him. They state that “counsels feel that circumstances have evolved that prevent the counsels from zealously advocating on behalf of the defendant.” Kelly was given 21 days to find new legal representation, however, no one appeared on the singer’s behalf this week. The final hearing will be on March 10th.

Times seem to be hard for the singer, considering the fact that a Chicago landlord is currently suing Kelly for $3.4 million in back rent. Kelly is also still battling an upcoming trial in April on charges of making and having child pornography and sexual abuse of a minor. Steve Greenberg, Kelly’s lawyer tells that this trial will be postponed due to the singer being hit with, “fresh federal charges” regarding the singer’s sexual abuse of another underaged victim over a four year period. The victim was just 14 years old. The singer will be charged on the new prosecution on March 5.

R. Kelly, real name, Robert Sylvester Kelly will go to trial in July to Brooklyn’s federal courthouse regarding sex-trafficking, racketeering, and bribery charges.
