Michael Jackson Will Remain In The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

Though many have since called for Michael Jackson’s “Cancellation” following HBO’s Leaving Neverland, it would appear that some institutions are taking a neutral stance. Such is indeed the case for both Madam Tussauds, and most recently, the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. According to TMZ, the powers behind the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame have deemed an artist’s music to transcend the artist as a person, and as such, should be respect on the basis of its own merit.

Citing MJ’s changes to music in the grand scheme of history, the committee behind the Hall feel a late-game adjustment would be dishonest to their cause. It certainly sparks an interesting discussion and one that has plagued fans for decades. From John Lennon to XXXTentacion, Kanye West to R. Kelly, listeners have often debated the merits of disassociation. “When shit hits the fan, is you still a fan?” asked Kendrick Lamar, on To Pimp A Butterfly closer “Mortal Man.” It depends where you stand.

Clearly, the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame feel like Michael Jackson’s musical accomplishments deserve more than to be wiped from the annals of history. Are they making the right call, or have you already purged “Beat It” from your playlists?
