Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” Maintains #1 Spot On Hot 100 For Fourth Week

Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” is currently a contender for song of the year, at least in terms of popularity. Billboard unintentionally put a major spotlight on the song after removing the very country song off of the genre’s chart because it didn’t necessarily qualify by their standards. Despite this, the track proved to be a commercial success, especially after its remix with Billy Ray Cyrus. After making its way to number one on the chart, it’s proving to be one of the biggest songs of the year since it isn’t budging for its position.

“Old Town Road” has earned his fourth week in a row atop the Billboard Hot 100. The song, which initially dropped in December, earned 114.4 million U.S. streams in the week ending on April 25th. The song initially gained the top spot on its own but the remix with Billy Ray Cyrus clearly has helped it maintain its position.

Despite the widespread popularity of the song, there have been a few critics, namely Dave East, who called the song “wack with a cape on it.”

“This fuckin’ ‘Old Town Road’ shit is fuckin’ wack. I don’t know what the fuck is going on with hip-hop,” he said. “I ain’t no hater, man, but that shit is wack with a cape on it. It’s super wack.”

The criticism didn’t seem to phase Lil Nas X, who said, “I honestly have gotten this question so many times, it’s like, I have the No. 1 song in the country.” Adding, “I do not give a fuck about what Dave East is saying.”
