Kyrie Irving Expected To Miss Games For Rest Ahead Of NBA Playoffs

Boston Celtics All Star point guard Kyrie Irving reportedly plans to miss a couple of games down the final stretch of the regular season, to ensure that he is as well rested as possible for the NBA playoffs.

The Celtics (43-28) are currently seeded fifth in the Eastern Conference, just a half game back of the Indiana Pacers, and three back of the third seed Philadelphia 76ers. However, Irving isn’t too concerned with where the Celtics fall in the regular season standings, according to Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald.

Boston will take on the Sixers in Philadelphia tonight with an opportunity to sweep the season series. Additionally, the Celtics (3-0 against Philly so far this season) can clinch a playoff spot with a victory and an Orlando Magic loss.

Irving, who is averaging 23.7 points, 7.1 assists, and 5.1 rebounds per game, is expected to be in the lineup. Gordon Hayward, however, has already been ruled out. Hayward is still in the NBA’s concussion protocol after he collided with Atlanta Hawks big man John Collins over the weekend.

Celtics vs Sixers, airing on ESPN, is scheduled to tip off at 7pm ET tonight.
