Jusuf Nurkic Suffers Horrific, Season-Ending Leg Injury

Portland Trail Blazers center Jusuf Nurkic suffered a gruesome leg injury during Monday night’s win against the Brooklyn Nets that will bring his season to an abrupt end.

According to reports, Nurkic suffered compound fractures to the tibia and fibula of his lower left leg. If you feel the need, the video evidence is below. Needless to say, it’s not for the faint of heart.

Nurkic, 24, finished with 32 points and 16 rebounds to go along with five assists, four blocks and two steals. In 71 games, he averaged career-highs in points, rebounds and assists with 15.6, 10.4 and 3.2, respectively.

“It made me sick to my stomach,” Damian Lillard said, per ESPN. “I think he tried to tip it in, he crashed the glass and I saw him hit the ground and roll over real quick, and I thought maybe he got hit in the face or something again. As I was walking over there, I saw everybody else turn around real quick and walk away, and then I looked and saw his leg — and you just hate to see that happen to him.”

“And it’s also going to be hard on our team. CJ’s already out, now him having a tough injury, so every way you look at it, it was a blow. It felt like it after the game.”

The Blazers went on to defeat the Nets in double overtime by the final of 148-144, as they improved to 46-27 on the season. With nine games remaining in the regular season, Portland stands a half-game back of the third seed Houston Rockets and just 3.5 games up on the eighth seed OKC Thunder.

Up next for the Blazers is a manageable four-game road trip with stops in Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit and Minnesota.
