Deontay Wilder To Defend Title On May 18 In Brooklyn

WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder announced today that he will be defending his title against mandatory challenger Dominic Breazeale on May 18th at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The fight will not air on PPV, and will instead take place on Showtime Championship Boxing.

According to ESPN, Wilder and his team were recently presented with several offers from sports streaming service DAZN, including a nine-figure multi-fight offer. ESPN’s Dan Rafael reports that one offer was for three fights worth $100 million, including a $20 million purse to fight Breazeale and $40 million to fight Anthony Joshua.

However, Wilder has turned down both offers from DAZN, which means the highly anticipated fight against Joshua, as well as the rematch against Tyson Fury, will not be happening.

According to MMAMania, if Wilder successfully defends his title against Breazeale in May, it’s likely he will face off against former world heavyweight champion, Wladimir Klitschko, who hasn’t stepped in the ring since he lost to Anthony Joshua in late 2017.
